The February 3 meeting of IWOSC/WPN Ventura County will host indie author Kimberly Davis Basso speaking on “The Mechanics & Money of Self-Publishing: From Promotion to Production.” The talk is open to the public and should be of interest to writers considering self-publishing or an author who did self-publish but wants to do it more efficiently and effectively next time. The meeting is held at Goebel Adult Center and begins at 6:30 pm with a Writers Reception. The presentation starts at 7 pm. Everyone is welcome.
Changes in book production have made self-publishing more accessible than ever for independent authors, but there is still an avalanche of information to absorb.

  • How do you know if self-publishing is right for you?
  • What’s the difference between a publisher and a publishing service and a print house?
  • What’s a hybrid author?
  • What actually happens when a customer orders your book online?
  • How do your books get into bookstores?
  • What do you have to do before you publish, and what kind of costs are involved?
  • Why do you need social media when all you want to do is sit alone in a room and write?

Kimberly will review the entire process and help you choose which (if any) of the many self-publishing hats to wear.
“I found Kimberly’s expertise on self-publishing outstanding,” said Kathleen Kaiser, WPN’s President. “She took her business experience and researched this new industry she wanted to join. And she did the many extra things most indie authors don’t, she promoted and continues to promote her book. Writers considering this path will receive an honest evaluation of the pluses and minus from Kimberly.”
