18th Annual Short Story Contest

The Ventura County Writers Club is accepting entries for its 18th annual short story contest. Cash prizes are awarded in both adult and high school divisions at the January 15, 2019 award ceremony held in Camarillo, California. First place adult prize is $500, second is $250, and third place is $125. High school division first place is $100, second is $75, and third place is $50. Winning stories are eligible for the club’s biennial anthology and newsletter. Deadline: midnight October 31.
Unpublished, family-friendly short stories no longer than 2,500 words are accepted via submittable.com as Word or PDF files. Reading fees range from $12-$30.

The club, established in 1933, welcomes writers of all genres and levels of expertise. The VCWC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging the craft of writing and is run completely by volunteers. Annual dues are $40-45 per year and include a bi-monthly newsletter.
