CLAS Book Proposal Workshop

CLAS is sponsoring a three-session book proposal workshop on February 3, 10 and 17, 7-9 p.m., at Bank of Books, 748 East Main Street, Ventura, CA. The workshop will include detailed instruction on how to prepare the book proposal. Authors will receive individual help. There will be a Q&A. The goal is for each author to prepare a proposal by the end of the workshop. Sections include title, synopsis, author bio, market potential/promotion, competitive works, chapter outline and sample chapters. Authors would benefit by preparing a book proposal before they finish their first draft. Even before they begin writing their book, an outline of the proposal could be written as a guide to what needs to be included. This could save authors the process of reworking and rewriting.
The workshop leader is Mary Embree, the founder of CLAS and WPN. She is a literary consultant, editor, and author of several books including The Birds and Bees of Words: A Guide to the Most Common Errors in Usage, Spelling, and Grammar and the popular Author’s Toolkit: A Step-by-Step Guide to Writing and Publishing Your Book. The third edition of Author’s Toolkit will be published in late 2010.
The fee for all three sessions is $25 for CLAS members and $50 for nonmembers. Individual sessions are $10 and $20. Nonmembers may join CLAS and pay the member fee. All proceeds go to the California Literary Arts Society. Web site: www.literaryarts-ca.org.
As seating is limited, paid reservations should be made in advance and sent to CLAS, P.O. Box 782, Ventura, CA 93002. For more information, e-mail maryembree@sbcglobal.net or call 805-643-3385.
