Join Me for Sunday Business Sermons (Free) by Jane Friedman
Jane is offering free afternoon discussions about the business of writing, publishing, and making a living predominantly online. She’s calling them Sunday Business Sermons.
For those who’ve attended her formal online classes, you’ll find these sessions very loose, conversational, and wide-ranging. She’ll share stories from her experience and how she’s come to approach certain aspects of her business, like online teaching and events.
She’s not charging for the sessions because they’re less about offering structured education and more about giving insight into how she’s managed and grown her online business over time. She receives questions from writers about topics she often finds too subjective or personal to address in formal curriculum; e.g., how does one save time or increase productivity? How do you teach online courses? How and why do you choose one technology or digital tool or platform over another? How do you price and package services?
Sunday Business Sermons go live at 3:00 p.m. Eastern via Zoom. You don’t have to attend live or register for the webinar unless you want to. If all goes well, the sessions will broadcast live/simultaneously on Facebook and YouTube, with the recording immediately available.
Upcoming schedule
Click on any link below if you’d like to register and attend a specific live session via Zoom. If you’re interested in the recording, there’s no need to register. Instead, visit her Facebook page or YouTube channel.

A Change in Awards at Romance Writers
The Romance Writers of America will permanently retire its annual RITA Awards, which it has presented annually since 1982, and introduce a new award, the Vivian, named after RWA founder Vivian Stephens. “Our goal is to celebrate the very best of our diverse genre,” said Alyssa Day, who was sworn in as RWA president following the controversy this year. “To do that, it’s imperative we develop rules and resources that ensure the Vivian is inclusive, equitable, and accessible.”

Not Cancelled: MurderCon
MurderCon is scheduled to take place August 6-9, 2020. Safety plans and procedures will be in place during the weekend, such as appropriate and safe social distancing at all times. The classrooms are very large, and some instruction takes place outdoors. Plans for orderly safe social distancing during class changes will be implemented.
Masks and sanitizer will be readily available throughout. Sirchie, the host, manufactures PPE for first responders worldwide, so safety equipment and sanitizers comes directly from the source. Due to the nature of Sirchie’s business, they are in the loop with federal, state, and local health officials. As always, safety is top priority at all Writers’ Police Academy events.
Again, MurderCon 2020 is scheduled to take place AS PLANNED with a new presentation added: Dr. Denene Lofland will speak on A Microbiologist’s Perspective of SARS-CoV-2 and the Spread of COVID-19
