The Literary Taxidermy Short Story Competition is open to all. To enter, creators must provide an original story of up to 3,000 words in any genre. The catch: They provide the opening and closing lines, chosen from a classic work of literature. You provide the rest.
Three winning stories will be selected, for a total prize of US $1,500. In addition, winners and runners-up will be published by Regulus Press in a forthcoming 2018 Anthology of Literary Taxidermy.
The judges of the 2018 contest include a variety of professional writers, poets, and playwrights, including Catherine Barnett (The Game of Boxes), Kelley Eskridge (Solitaire), Stephen Graham Jones (Mongrels), Holly Kowitt (The Principal’s Underwear Is Missing), Brian Parks (Americana Absurdum), Michael Pronko (The Last Train), Becky Selengut (Good Fish), and Nisi Shawl (Everfair).
Entries to the competition close on June 4, 2018. Winners will be announced in September 2018.
