How to Understand an Art Supply

by Carolyn Dube
What’s the great big secret to understanding an art supply? Playing with it. Sounds simple, but it isn’t always easy. Why? Because we’re thinking beings, and thinking can get in our way.
Questions pop up. “What happens if I do this?” “Will that work?” “How will it look if I do that?” “Will I ruin it?”
Those are the types of questions I get at the start of a workshop, but by the middle the questions shift dramatically to “Did you just see what happened?” “How do I make it do that again?”
Why do the questions shift? The play takes hold and you experience the freedom of play. There’s an excitement that fills the air when you’re being your true creative self.
My next in-person workshop (Stenciled and Sprayed) is all about making artful wearables: t-shirts, shoes, aprons, anything fabric. I’m bringing all the sprays, paints, StencilGirl stencils, and more, so you don’t have to. It’s all included in the price, plus lunch. Details and registration are at https://www.glendasmiles.com/stenciled-sprayed for this April 6 workshop in the Greater Cincinnati area.
You’ll see the process step by step, but most importantly, Ill be there to answer questions as you play, so you’ll have a solid understanding of the process when you walk out the door with wearable art you made.
